Riley Post

statement

I am a digital artist working with programmatic image. My work is broadly concerned with poetic forms of data visualisation. I use cultural artefacts such as images, video and sound as a data source in order to render new forms. These forms are a result of experimentation with algorithm design, which is heavily iterative. Each successful algorithm becomes the basis for the next. This process pushes my thinking towards the concept of digital aggregation - cultural data sources give rise to potentially endless forms which can be taken as new facets of their source. The process is delicate, it is easy to obscure the meaning of the data source and reduce it to semi-random numbers. But, when successful, my interpretations offer a new appreciation of the original material, in addition to standing on their own merits.
